IT services — COP24 — United Nations Conference

1 December 2018

We had the honour of participating in the technical servicing of one of the largest international events organised in Poland. In December 2018, Katowice hosted the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24) — a UN climate summit bringing together around 20,000 participants from 190 countries.

Our task was the construction and servicing of the network infrastructure and structured cabling for this exceptional event.

Participation in the servicing of the UN climate summit confirms our competence in delivering IT infrastructure for events with the highest technical and organisational requirements.

UN climate summits, i.e. the so-called COP (Conference of the Parties), are global conferences at which actions for climate policy are negotiated. Poland has hosted them twice — in 2008 in Poznań and in 2013 in Warsaw.

In December 2018, the climate summit was held for the first time in Katowice. In April 2017, delegates of the UN technical mission visiting the capital of Upper Silesia praised the city for its very good preparation to host the event, including infrastructure meeting high requirements.

Katowice’s candidacy was praised by, among others, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Development, Mateusz Morawiecki, as well as the Minister of the Environment, Prof. Jan Szyszko, who emphasised that “The entire region of Upper Silesia and the Dąbrowa Basin is a very important example of what can be achieved through consistent sustainable-development policy and economic transformation”.

The following will take place as part of this year’s summit: the 24th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP24), the 14th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP 14) and the Conference of the signatories of the Paris Agreement (CMA 1).

Around 20,000 people from 190 countries will take part in the event, including politicians, representatives of non-governmental organisations, the scientific community and the business sphere.
